Raffaele Chiulli receives Honorary Doctorate in “Engineering and Chemistry of Materials and Structures”

University of Messina awarded with the prestigious title the Italian business and sport executive as distinguished personality who has considerably contributed in the field of new technologies and sustainability

The Rector and the Academic Senate of the University of Messina awarded with the honorary doctorate in “Engineering and Chemistry of Materials and Structures” Raffaele Chiulli, President of SAFE, centre of excellence and opinion leader in the energy and environment field, President of the UIM (World Powerboating Federation), GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations, representing 125 international sports federations and organizations), ARISF (Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations) and SportAccord.

The University has conferred the Honorary Doctorate to distinguished personalities whose knowledge and scientific contribution were considered exemplary, among those Jeffrey N. Williams, NASA astronaut who holds the record of the longest time in space, and Piero Angela, the most acknowledged and popular Italian scientific tv presenter.

During the Conferring Ceremony, Prof. Guglielmino outlined: “Raffaele Chiulli’s contribution to the motorsport and energy industries, with his strong focus on technological innovation and sustainability, is of significant relevance. His passion and interest for sustainability has been a leitmotive along the whole Raffaele’s professional career. The launch of the UIM E1 World Electric Powerboat Series is a further evidence”.

Raffaele Chiulli delivered a passionate and engaging Lectio Doctoralis on “The crucial role of Sport in the drive for innovative solutions, new technology and global sustainability”. “I am honoured for this prestigious recognition – Raffaele Chiulli said. Sport, culture and education are three essential elements in today’s society. Universities can play a key role in addressing the new social, economic and environmental challenges. My sincere thanks to the Rector Prof. Cuzzocrea and the Academic Senate of the University of Messina”.

At the end of the Ceremony the Rector said: “Today Dr. Raffaele Chiulli joins our academic community and our University is proud for having conferred this important recognition to such a distinguished personality”.
