The University of Salento awarded with the honoris causa degree in Law Raffaele Chiulli, President of SAFE (centre of excellence on energy and environment), President of GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations, representing 128 international sports federations and organizations), ARISF (Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations), SportAccord (World Sport and Business Summit) and UIM (World Powerboating Federation).
During the Graduation Ceremony, the Director of Juridical Sciences, Prof. Luigi Melica, said: “We reward Raffaele Chiulli’s extraordinary commitment to promote sport and empower diversities giving access to sport as a right for all, with a special focus on youth”.
Prof. Melica also outlined that “Raffaele Chiulli plays a key role in the energy industry to raise public awareness and implement the application of sustainable energy sources and new technologies”.
Energy and sport have a great responsibility to help humankind fight against global warming and find more sustainable ways to protect the environment.
After his passionate and engaging Lectio Doctoralis on “The new frontiers of Sport” Raffaele Chiulli said: “I am honoured for this prestigious recognition. Sport provides education and guidance to young generations and can unite in diversity regardless of faith, race, culture, beliefs, gender and ability; through the universal language of sport we can achieve respect for all diversities, understanding of each other’s traditions and values in a more and more integrated community”.
